Litecoin was created by Charlie Lee in 2011 as a lighter variant of Bitcoin. It uses proof of work with the Scrypt algorithm and produces blocks faster than Bitcoin. The maximum supply is capped at 84 million units; there is no central issuer. As of Oct 11, 2026
